Income Tax Calculator (India, New Regime)
Estimate your income tax payable under India's new tax regime slabs for FY 2025-26 (AY 2026-27), after standard deduction and the Section 87A rebate.
What this calculator does
This is a CALCULATION tool, not tax filing software or financial advice. It applies the published new-regime slab rates to your gross income and estimates the tax payable — useful for planning, not for filing your return.
The slabs used (FY 2025-26 / AY 2026-27, new regime)
| Taxable income | Rate |
|---|---|
| Up to ₹4,00,000 | Nil |
| ₹4,00,001 – ₹8,00,000 | 5% |
| ₹8,00,001 – ₹12,00,000 | 10% |
| ₹12,00,001 – ₹16,00,000 | 15% |
| ₹16,00,001 – ₹20,00,000 | 20% |
| ₹20,00,001 – ₹24,00,000 | 25% |
| Above ₹24,00,000 | 30% |
Salaried and pension income gets a flat ₹75,000 standard deduction before these slabs apply. A 4% health & education cess is added on top of the slab tax. Under Section 87A, if your taxable income is ₹12,00,000 or less, a rebate of up to ₹60,000 brings your tax payable to zero — which is why salaried income up to ₹12.75 lakh is effectively tax-free.
Worked example
A salaried taxpayer earning ₹20,00,000 a year: taxable income after the ₹75,000 standard deduction is ₹19,25,000. Tax works out to ₹0 on the first ₹4L, ₹20,000 on the next ₹4L (5%), ₹40,000 on the next ₹4L (10%), ₹60,000 on the next ₹4L (15%), and ₹65,000 on the remaining ₹3.25L (20%) — a slab total of ₹1,85,000. Since taxable income is above ₹12L, no 87A rebate applies. Adding 4% cess (₹7,400) gives a final estimated tax of ₹1,92,400.
What this doesn't include
- Surcharge — an additional charge that applies once income exceeds ₹50 lakh, not calculated here.
- Marginal relief — a smoothing rule for taxpayers just above the ₹12L rebate threshold, not modeled here.
- The old tax regime — with its Section 80C/80D deductions — isn't calculated; this tool covers the new regime only.
- Capital gains and other special-rate income, which are taxed separately from salary/business slab income.
For an actual filing, or if your income is near ₹50L+ or includes capital gains, consult a tax professional or the official Income Tax Department resources.
Frequently asked questions
This calculator uses only the new tax regime slabs, which is the default regime for most taxpayers since Budget 2023 unless you actively opt for the old regime.
If your taxable income (after the ₹75,000 standard deduction, if applicable) is ₹12,00,000 or less, the Section 87A rebate cancels out your tax liability entirely under the new regime.
No — surcharge applies only above ₹50 lakh income and isn't calculated here. If your income is in that range, treat this as a partial estimate and check with a tax professional.
These reflect the slab structure introduced in Budget 2025 and retained in Budget 2026. Tax rules can change with future budgets — always verify against the current Finance Act before relying on a figure for filing.
